Late Charges automatically extend overdue bookings and bill customers for extra hire time. When a customer keeps an item past its return time, Lockii waits for your buffer, extends the booking, charges their saved card, and sends your automated extension message. No staff need to chase overdue fees by phone.
In the app: Settings → Preferences → Late Charges
A confirmed booking passes its return time while the item is still on hire.
Lockii waits for your overdue buffer (default 30 minutes).
Lockii extends the booking by your extension length (default 2 hours) and calculates the extra hire charge.
Lockii charges the customer's saved card. If the charge fails, the amount is added to the unpaid balance and Lockii retries on the next extension cycle.
Lockii logs the extension on the booking timeline and fires your order auto extended communication.
The cycle repeats until the customer returns or a conflict blocks further extensions.
Extensions respect location operating hours. If the proposed new end time lands after close, Lockii snaps the extension to the next opening time.
Open Settings → Preferences.
Scroll to Late Charges and turn the switch on.
Set Overdue buffer to how long Lockii should wait after the current end time before the first extension attempt.
Set Extension length to how long each automatic extension adds to the hire.
Add or review an automated message that uses the order auto extended trigger so customers know they were charged for extra time.
Late Charges run in the background every 15 minutes. You do not need to watch the schedule for overdue hires.
The booking end time shows the current extended end when an auto-extension is active.
The activity timeline records each automatic or manual extension, including the amount charged or added to the balance.
Failed charge attempts appear on the timeline with the card error so you can follow up if needed.
Staff can still extend an overdue booking manually from the booking editor when a customer calls to arrange more time.
Late Charges work best when:
Stripe is connected and customers save a card at checkout
Bookings are confirmed and picked up before they go overdue
You have an automated message for the order auto extended trigger
If no saved card is available, Lockii can still extend the booking and add the charge to the unpaid balance.
Start with the defaults (30 minute buffer, 2 hour extensions) and adjust after you see how your customers behave.
Pair Late Charges with return reminders so customers know the hire has ended before the first extension charge.
Check the booking timeline after a failed charge. Revenue Recovery on the original booking payment does not replace the extension charge path.
Use Customer Returns and GPS zones so returns close automatically and fewer hires run overdue.
